В прошлом чемпион Японии по дзюдо, Дзигоро Инокума , тренирует свою внучку Явару Инокуму с самого её детства, вынашивая мечту о том, что в один прекрасный день она выиграет золотую медаль на Олимпийских играх и национальную премию. Ради этого Дзигоро готов пойти на всё — даже поступиться мнением внучки. В то же время девушке уже надоело всё, связанное с дзюдо, и у неё есть только одно желание — жить нормальной жизнью старшеклассницы: завести подруг, влюбиться, ходить по магазинам и красиво одеваться. Яваре предстоит сделать сложный выбор: серьёзно заняться боевыми искусствами и воплотить мечты множества людей или стать обычной девушкой и жить такой же обычной жизнью. Её дилемма становится ещё сложнее, когда она встречает по-настоящему сильных соперников.
