В течение многих поколений семья ] владеет древним синтоистским храмом. В одном из зданий храма расположен старый и ничем не примечательный колодец, в который однажды свалился семейный кот. Сота Хигураси попросил свою сестру Кагомэ помочь достать кота, поскольку сам боится даже заходить в пристройку с колодцем. У колодца на Кагомэ неожиданно напал демон-сороконожка и потребовал отдать ему некий Камень четырёх душ. Спасаясь от демона, Кагомэ упала в колодец и потеряла сознание. Придя в себя и выбравшись из колодца, Кагомэ обнаружила, что оказалась в странном месте: храм пропал и вокруг чистое поле. Неподалёку расположилась средневековая деревня, куда и направилась Кагомэ. Там она узнала, что является реинкарнацией Кикё, сестры старой шаманки деревни, а Камень четырёх душ действительно находится в теле Кагомэ. Вскоре на деревню напал тот самый демон, который атаковал Кагомэ в её мире. Ради победы над ним Кагомэ вынуждена пробудить полудемона Инуясю , запечатанного Кикё полвека назад и являющегося причиной её гибели.
