События происходят в отдаленном будущем. Главный герой — Тэцуро — обычный земной паренек, но у него есть необычная мечта: он хочет заменить своё тело на тело робота. В будущем это вполне возможно, но для этого ему необходимо добраться до Бессмертной Планеты на борту космического корабля «Галактический экспресс 999». Волею судьбы к нему присоединяется таинственная красавица-блондинка Мэйтел, одетая в русском стиле и готовая быть ему спутницей в долгом путешествии на необъятных просторах космоса. В каждой серии наши герои попадают на новую межкосмическую планетную станцию.
